Qualcomm is going to release smartwatch chip this year
Qualcomm already released its first wearable computer named Toq (smartwatch). Toq is available in two colored versions black and white and it made available on the leading online retailer Amazon. It costs around $250.
Similarly Samsung has also started releasing second generation Gear devices and so is Motorola and LG who have started to release wear powered devices. However these firms run on clipped version of chipsets which is designed for larger devices such as tablets and smartphones.
The only proper chipset designed for wearables are being designed by MediaTek and it is called Aster. Eddie Chang (Qualcomm CDMA Technologies Taiwan president) demands that this firm is getting ready for its own SoC. He said that Qualcomm has all the requirements for the new SoC and they will be manufacturing mass volume of chipsets soon.
However no official partners were announced nor they shared any specifications but Eddie stated that we will be seeing Qualcomm chips for wearable devices within the end of this year.
