A short review of Micromax’s Yu Yureka
At present Micromax is becoming more and more popular in India. It is considered one of the India’s leading smartphone manufacturer. It recently released a smartphone in brand name of Yu whose first smartphone was Yu Yureka. This new smartphone is launched and is sold exclusively by Amazon India.
First of all Yureka is a budget samrtphone which is running on Cyanogen operating system 11. This latest smartphone is considered one of the cheapest smartphone with dual SIM facility and 4G connectivity. But is has got some amazing specifications too. Okay, without further a do lets get to the review part of Yureka.
The smartphone comes in a simple cardboard box which consists of Yureka phone, charger, microUSB cable, battery, headset and paperworks like warranty and help book.
Structure and design of the mobile
First of all, Yureka is a big smartphone which features 5.5 inch display. A 5.5 inch display is normally considered as a big phone which is difficuilt to operate with one hand.
The front part has three capacitive keys. The home button is visible but the menu button and back button is hidden until backlight is on. Same as in One Plus One users can disable the physical buttons and they can switch to on screen controls which also has a powerful navigation controls.
The power button is on the right side of the device while the micro USB port and microphone is at the bottom. The headset jack is on top and volume control buttons slide up on left side of the smartphone.
Yureka sports a 13 MP camera on its back with a LED flash light along with a secondary microphone. Towards the bottom is the loudspeaker. But i must say that the loudspeaker is bad which is not audible and when kept on the surface the phone becomes entirely quiet.
And inside the smartphone is a battery packed with 2500 mAh and there are two SIM card slots and a single micro SD card slot. So to conclude on design, Yureka comes with ordinary design quality and nothing stands out when compared to others.
YU Yureka comes with a 5.5 inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels which is good and also its sharp given the low pixel density. The outdoor visibility and viewing angles are also pretty good.
Software and Hardware
Yureka is one of the smartphones to run on 64 bit based architecture given such a low price. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 chipset. This has eight Cortex A53 cores where four of them are clocked @ 1.7 GHz speed and other four are clocked @ 1.0 GHz sped. The graphics is powered by Adreno 405 chipset. This smartphone is coupled with 2 GB of amin memory (RAM) and has 16 GB of internal memory space. The memory capacity can be expanded by an external micro SD card.
Also in performance, Yureka performs well enough. The activities like switching between applications, launching apps and scrolling was also good. There were no issues when it comes to gaming as well, all the games ran on this device was pretty good without any lag.
When it comes to software, Cyanogen OS 11 is running itself is enough to measure the software performance. This mod is based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system. There are lot of additional features in which some of them are useful while others are considered miscs. But there are not lot of themes available for this smartphone right now. But overall the both the hardware and software performances were good.
Yureka supports dual SIM cards where 4G LTE connectivity is enabled on one SIM card slot and only 2G on another. It supports TD – LTE bands in India but no NFC support is provided. And other basic connectivity standards like WiFi, Bluetooth, FM, GPS and micro USB are available.
Yureka sports a 13 MP camera on its back and 5 MP camera on its front. Even though it has 13 MP rear camera the performance was not quite satisfactory. The details of the picture were not quite good. The HDR mode in the camera app was not quite effective as it should but results in increasing the saturation levels and fringing the image. The front camera was okay but not that good quality like other front snapper you see in HTC and Sony.
Yu Yureka is packed with 2500 mAh battery and the device lasts for a day on a single charge which is okay given the aspect that it contains two SIM cards. For normal usage like calls and data usage for messengers and other apps on internet this charge capacity is okay. But if usage like gaming and other high power usage apps the charge will definitely slow down.
The cost of Yu Yureka is listed as Rs. 8,999 on Amazon India. Given the price value this smartphone is really good. It has good build quality, display is good, camera quality is not up to the mark but can’t complain given the value and a decent battery life.
The hardware specs were also quite good which i think it will stand for atleast a year and a half. And the software with Cyanogen mod it gets its richness and is more user friendly.
There are of course some disadvantages like poor loudspeaker quality, poor camera quality on lowlight and mediocre call quality but we can’t comlaint for the price it comes.
To conclude with, Yu Yureka is a best choice for those who want a budget smartphone with decent specifications and a plus point is that the device is running on Cyanogen OS.
