Fairphone 2 gets launched for European countries
Fairphone is a firm who is responsible for bringing the concept of modular smartphone has revealed their Fairphone 2 back in 2013 is now officially launched for European countries. Thus Fairphone 2 becomes the world’s first modular smartphone whereas Google is tediously working on its Project Ara which has been delayed till 2106.
Fairphone 2 carries a price tag of EUR 529.38 which is approximately INR 38,000 rupees. Company said that shipping will start from end of Q4 (i.e. from December). Fairphone’s Chief Technology Officer, Olivier Hebert said that, Fairphone 2 is the second smartphone from the firm and is designed with robust structure and will last long. The firm specifically mentions that this device is designed only for servicing in Europe.
Fairphone announced their collaboration with Jolla for their support in operating systems. Fairphone along with Jolla will release a customized version of SailFish operating system till that OS is ready, Fairphone 2 will run on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with custom user interface on top of it.
Regarding the specifications, Fairphone 2 features a 5 inch full high definition LCD TFT display with screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The display screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood, this device is powered by Qulacomm’s Snapdragon 801 chipset with quad core processor and is clocked at 2.26 GHz speed.
Fairphone 2 is coupled with 2 GB of main memory (RAM) and comes with 32 GB of inbuilt memory space. This Dual SIM modular smartphone sports an 8 MP primary camera and a 2 MP front snapper. Regarding the connectivity options Fairphone 2 supports 2G, 3G, 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, FM, micro USB etc.
Fairphone 2 is packed with 2420 mAh battery and the physical dimensions are as follows 143 x 73 x 11 millimeters and weighs about 148 grams. This new modular smartphone is packed with Compass, Accelerometer, Ambient light, Gyroscope and Proximity sensors.
