If you are just starting out blogging, the first and most important part is to choose the most appropriate platform. There are numerous blogging tools out there. WordPress and Ghost are the ones that are most popular. But for a beginner, which one is the better option, after all?

WordPress

Now, if you are even remotely active on the internet, you would already have heard a lot about WordPress. It is, without any doubt, the most popular website building system out there. Almost a quarter of websites and blogs are working on WordPress. WordPress is not only a blogging platform. eCommerce stores, corporate sites, photography sites, and so on are also made possible with its different tools and plugins.

Usage Stats – WordPress CMS

WordPress is popular due to its simplicity and ease of use. And WordPress is guaranteed not to close its doors any time in the near future. The chances of you going wrong with WordPress, are minimal. But ultimately, it all comes down to your goals and aspirations with the blog.

WordPress offers you an intertwined community of users who might wish to follow your blog. And this makes it easier to spread your content, given that it is good.

Ghost

Ghost is a straightforward and simple platform for blogging. It has a minimal but efficient user interface. Now, unlike WordPress, Ghost is only meant for blogging. It does not provide a wide array of tools and is meant only for blogs.

Ghost Dashboard

Ghost, unlike WordPress, does not offer free hosting.  Except for the 14-day trial, its services are paid. But, there exist almost no limitations in the hosted version in any manner. You can upload your own themes to use for your blog, via FTP.

Ghost offers SEO options and social media sharing features in the core itself, unlike WordPress. This means that you do not need to install external plugins. This makes the website light and fast. But with that said, Ghost’s features are pretty minimalist. This shows not just in design but also in functioning. You can create and edit posts for your blog and that’s pretty much it.

If you need large multi-author blogs, or magazines and portfolio sites, Ghost is not your solution.
